DIRECTORS UK INSPIRE

Dan was recently selected by Directors UK to participate in their prestigious INSPIRE 2024-25 mentoring programme which gives structured support to emerging directors. Dan’s mentor is HETV director Richard Senior who has an amazing list of credits and a wealth of production experience which Dan hopes to learn from and apply to his own slate of film and series projects.

NEW YORK FILM ACADEMY

Before moving to Los Angeles early in his screenwriting career, Dan lived for a time in the Big Apple where he studied film production at the New York Film Academy and made his first short drama FINDERS, KEEPERS. The intensive practical filmmaking program covered all aspects of screenwriting, pre-production and post-production — lead by expert tutors and industry professionals.

AARDMAN ACADEMY

Dan studied Storyboarding at Aardman Animation tutored by Jay Clarke who was Lead Storyboard Artist for “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and storyboarded all of Wes Anderson’s “Isle of Dogs”. Though a graphic designer with storyboarding experience, Dan took the course to enhance his skills and learn how to effectively prepare for more complex shooting sequences and set-pieces in future productions.

NFTS — HETV DIRECTING

Dan recently studied Directing High-End TV Drama at the National Film & Television School under the tutorship of accomplished director Andrew Gunn (LIFE ON MARS, DR WHO, WATERLOO ROAD). The intensive course covered all aspects of pre-production, shooting, and how to effectively and efficiently plan and prepare for the production of high-end drama.

RAINDANCE FILM SCHOOL

Dan took the Producers Foundation Course at the Raindance Film School in London to increase his knowledge of the industry as a business beyond the creative craft. The intensive program lead by working industry professionals covered all areas of producing, from developing, budgeting, financing, tax credits and cash-flowing a production to managing legal and business affairs and successfully marketing a film.

AVID EDITOR

Dan taught himself Avid professional editing software during the pandemic lockdown and he is also proficient with Adobe Premiere, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve and Movie Magic Budgeting & Scheduling. He co-edited his multi-award-winning short ALL THAT GLITTERS and edits his own trailers. He edited his first 16mm drama short FINDERS, KEEPERS on a classic Steenbeck flatbed editor where he mastered his skills for pacing.
