Dan’s Script Top 15 Semi-Finalist At Kingston Film Festival

Dan’s short film script “Precipice” is named a Top 15 Semi-Finalist for “Best UK Short Screenplay” at the inaugural Kingston International Film Festival in London. The social-realism drama tells the story of a young mixed-race girl who lives with her alcoholic mother and struggles with the aftermath of a sexual assault.

Dan explains his motivation for writing the script and wanting to make this as his next film: “When Zara Aleena was sexually assaulted and murdered while walking home one night in the area I grew up, following the same route I’d walked as a teenager and young man many times after a night out, it made me angry and upset and question why women and girls still have to worry about these things, and why some boys and men feel like they can get away with these atrocious acts of violence. That’s when I realized I wanted to tackle this issue and start a conversation around it and wrote Precipice.”

Dan added, “All of my short films to date have been very genre-focused in terms of style and content but with this project I want to step out of my comfort zone and shoot something more gritty with a social-realism urban, edgy, cinéma vérité vibe.”

Dan has put together an amazing team and is now looking for funding to shoot the project, saying “I am excited to get behind the camera again and hope this recognition will help convince investors and funders that the film and message is worthwhile.”
